Reunion Roundup

The McCaskey Alumni Association is one of the most active groups of its kind. The best expression of this fact is in the large number of class reunions that are held every year, thanks to the hard work of our class agents (reunion organizers), as well as the high level of attendance at these gatherings. Here is a list of testimonials from Red Tornadoes who have put reunions together over the last year.

After several months of meetings, we the Class of 1987 had our 30th Class Reunion in October of 2017. We exceeded our expectations for attendance. The Marriott hotel staff was excellent, and so was our menu. A class member did a collage of our class and displayed it as a slide presentation. That was pretty awesome! The Class of ’87 football team was recognized at the McCaskey Homecoming Football Game where we sold 30th Year Reunion T-shirts. Overall, positive feedback was given by those in attendance. –Jesse Bowman

About 30 of us joined the McCaskey Alumni Association on a school tour the morning of our reunion, October 21, 2017. Everyone loved it and were so glad they attended. That same number went to the home football game the night before. The reunion was held at Conestoga Country Club with 95 attending. We took an entire group pic and also pics of different groups like former members of the band, cheerleaders, football, soccer, baseball, field hockey etc. We raised lots of money for the class fund by doing a 50/50 drawing. –Don Todd

The McCaskey Class of 1975 held a 60th Birthday Party on September 23, 2017 at The Juke Box Nightclub which is owned by our classmate, John Katras. We had about 90 total in attendance, with classmates traveling from Florida, Texas, South Carolina, and Maryland. We celebrated with food, fun, dancing, and lots of laughter and reminiscing about our great days at JPM.

The McCaskey Class of 1977 celebrated our 40th Reunion on September 17, 2017 at the Conestoga Country Club.  Thanks to the work of a fantastic committee, we sold out the event with 140 classmates and guests.  Lancaster DJ icon and McCaskey Class of 1976 grad Chuck Colson provided the music.  Through the generosity of the Class, we were able to share gifts and some donations to the Alumni Fund.  It was a warm September evening filled with laughter, sharing memories, a few tears, and a unique chance to catch up with folks we have not seen for many years and to honor those who we have lost over the years!  Thank you to Jeremiah Miller from the Alumni Office for attending and for sharing some vision about the Alumni Association.  It was a night we were reluctant to see end and we look forward to our collective 60th birthdays on the horizon and our 45th gathering in 2022! –Doug Kauffman

The 50th Reunion of the extraordinary McCaskey Class of 1967 was held on October 13, 14, 15 in 2017.  It was a successful and fun weekend from beginning to end with attendance well over 200 on both Friday and Saturday nights.  The Lancaster Country Club was the venue for Friday night’s Dinner/Dance which featured the 1960’s music of the outstanding Lancaster band, “The Roof Rockers.” Saturday night was a casual evening, promoted as “Hangout, … Revisted”, at the Lancaster Amvets where classmates were treated to an exciting surprise of the reunion of our high school band, “The Viscounts,” who rocked!  In addition to a full dance floor on both nights, the Reunion Committee treated its guests throughout the weekend to special events such as a golf tournament, a tour of JP McCaskey HS, a tour of and Wheatland, a 60’s dance review, a “Monster Mash” flash mob complete with masks and costumes, lip-sync performances by several classmates, Minute-to-Win-It games and prizes, a slide show with photos from all of our reunions and parties since 1972, and tables of memorabilia bringing back great memories from our days at McCaskey.  Sunday brunch at Yoder’s Restaurant ended the weekend festivities where approximately 60 gathered to enjoy tasty Lancaster County food and to share more McCaskey 1967 memories.  In addition to all of the above, the class raised over $11,000 which will be used for scholarships at McCaskey and also to adopt four McCaskey classrooms.

J.P.McCaskey, Class of 1962 celebrated its 55th Reunion on October 6th and 7th, 2017 at the Conestoga Country Club. There were about 100 attendees both nights. Classmate Dave Kramer entertained us as we visited with each other on Friday night with music “from the day”. By Saturday, Lenny the Groove Machine had a good number of the class and friends up and dancing! As always, it was great to see and remember with old friends. The class voted to donate part of our reunion funds to the Adopt-a-Classroom program in September 2018.

The Class of 1957 held its 60th Reunion on October 20 and 21, 2017. The Friday night event was great, with 66 attending.  We had hors d’ouvres, lots of conversations and memories shared.  Our class president, Dick Lockey, spoke remembering those no longer with us.  Saturday was a delicious hot lunch buffet.  Both events were at the DoubleTree where we had our 55th . . . very enjoyable!
